Season’s Greetings from Fíbín

Goodbye to a great 2017 but here’s to an even better 2018!!

We have finished up another busy year here in Fíbín and we are very much looking forward to the year ahead.

Fíbín kickstarted this year’s programme with a co-production of the legend of Clann Lir’ with Erris Arts Centre. This show was launched as part of the Seachtain na Gaeilge events in March and has been performed at many festivals and events throughout the year.

There was great crowd in attendance at our outdoor spectacle ‘Pléasc’ in June, performed as part of the weekend programme of events, commemorating 100 years since the explosion of a mine in Cois Fharraige. This re-enactment was enjoyed by young and old alike and interest was shown in the story near and far.

Fíbín completed their 11th run of the Leaving Certificate play ‘An Triail’ and the play sold out in some venues, where we had to add on extra shows to accommodate numbers. We performed to a record attendance of in excess of 7500 students this year.

Looking ahead….

Fíbín are back on a nationwide tour in April with ‘Tóraíocht’ – a new bilingual version of “Diarmuid agus Gráinne” – adapted and directed by Mikel Murfi and written by Philip Doherty. The previews of this show were performed in Galway in November 2016 and will be staged in the Town Hall Theatre in Galway, The Everyman in Cork, Draíocht in Blanchardstown and the VISUAL in Carlow next April. Tickets are available from all venues and wouldn’t they make a lovely Christmas present for the Gaeilgeoir in your life.  All info here.

Our Leaving Certificate play ‘An Triail’ returns for it’s 12th tour next October. All info on venues and dates here. Put the dates in your diary today and more information to follow in the New Year.

Fíbín would like to take this opportunity to bid farewell to our producer Ruth Gordon, who finished working with us recently after nearly 5 years. It was a genuine pleasure working with Ruth during this time and we will miss her but we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavours.

A heartfelt Thank You to all of you who came to see a Fíbín show this year! A very special Thank You to our funders, actors, directors, designers, the Fíbín crew, the venues and to everyone who made this year a huge success – THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!
